Just a Beginning

This is the very first attempt to incorporate a Blog to my website concerning matters Lovecraftian. So bear with me if this ends up looking a little weird.

Hi again,

Yesterday I received an item I purchased way back in February - D. M. Mitchell's The Starry Wisdom: A Tribute to H. P. Lovecraft (Creation Books, 1994 - and yes, that's the cover I include here, hehe). As always, Ramsey Campbell's Foreword is worth a read, and the Introduction by the editor is quite interesting.

This book is a mixture of short stories & graphic stories... By such diverse artists as Campbell, Brian Lumley (these two an obvious choice), William S. Burroughs (of Naked Lunch fame - a huge surprise between this kind of covers!), and John Coulthart (whose illustrated version of "The Call of Cthulhu" is not only the single "purely" HPL story, but also promises to be a stunning piece of art in itself), to name a few of 'em.

I am looking forward to delve into this peculiar item - especially since emphasis seems to be on the more Occult matters in HPL's stories; perhaps not surprisingly if one take into account some of the elements in his stories, but surprisingly because that aspect has been pretty much downplayed in view of HPL's personal views on such matter (he laughed at Occultism). Also, sex seems to permeat a good chunk of the material, which is perhaps an even greater surprise... And looks pretty dark when combined with HPL's dark vision of life...

It is my hope that I will soon add this book into my MISCELLANEOUS page here on my HPL Website... So stay tuned!
