It's a wrap!!!:D

H. P. LovecraftPosted by Harksen Wednesday, January 23 2008 18:30:40

Phew. It's all settled and done. So now all we have to do is wait till the physical results of all this labor arrives slithering at my doorstepsmiley It may take a few weeks, it may take a month... But at least we're HERE!

Several people wrote me yesterday in response to my frustration. The solution ended up being me using another program than Word, which was the (dark) heart of the problem. And don't worry--it is completely legal etc.

I have an exam later this week, which now demands my attention, but after that I will begin work on the much-needed update of the website, www.hplmythos.dk. It may take a couple of weeks before it's usable, but I'm finally getting around to it. Don't expect anything super fancy, though; I am merely a humble amateur dabbling with the wonders of the virtual world...

I will have specifics re. payment up on the site too. In the meanwhile, feel free to e-mail me if you want a copy from the first shipment. I will then write you back, letting you know payment specifics. Since this is the first and only book so far--and incorporating online payment to the website is NOT feasible in the near future--I will simply tell you the account to pay the DKK200/copy + requesting shipment data.

I suggest you look at the earlier blogs here, for updates on what this exciting book containssmiley

More soon!

Ia, ïa!

At the Printer... and Yet...

H. P. LovecraftPosted by Harksen Tuesday, January 22 2008 02:36:39

Hi there,

I've now heard from the printing company--and it seems that there's an error in the manuscript. One I need to get fixed before I can commence (again)smiley... So I am asking--no, begging--you for help...

Each story has an illustration. Unfortunately, since I've had to make the layout in Word before converting to .pdf (for the printer), these picture files are automatically compressed in Word, resulting in too low a printer resolution (200 dpi), which is also what PDFWriter thinks is the correct format, then. The original pic files are in fine resolution, but for some goddarn reason I can't get Word to understand that I want to use the original resolution!?

I have tried resolving it manually: Format -> Picture. But even when I've asked it not to use either Web resolution (92 dpi) or Print resolution (aforementioned 200 dpi) nothing happens. Zip. Nada.

Anyone knows how to solve this? I can't get it printed before I somehow get around this... And yes, I know Word sucks as a layout program, but that's what I had to use... So let's stay on topic, ok?

Feel free to leave a message here, or e-mail me at h.harksen.productions@gmail.com.

I am very sorry about this new delay, folks. I honestly believed all problems were solved by now. Let's hope that it will be fixed within a few days--after which it's back to the printer!!!!

Either way--the obstacles with this project (I am a newbie, remember) ought to learn me so many lessons that future projects will be a piece of cakesmiley

Btw--the price for the 196 pages long book will be DKK 200,-

Regards,

Henrik

A Spectre is Haunting Chicago essay out

H. P. LovecraftPosted by Harksen Sunday, November 25 2007 00:52:40

Hi again,

I thought some of you might find this of interest. Not long ago I received the contributor's copy featuring my first publication of an essay published in a book. Quite cool, if I do say so myselfsmiley

Blog ImageThe essay is "A Spectre is Haunting Chicago: The Lovecraft-Leiberian Connection" and you can find it in Benjamin Szumskyj's (editor) excellent FRITZ LEIBER: CRITICAL ESSAYS (McFarland Publishers):

http://www.amazon.com/Fritz-Leiber-Critical-John-Pelan/dp/0786429720

It may be purchased through some Danish store as well, but that I am not aware of.

For now,

Henrik

FRA SKYGGERNE update!

H. P. LovecraftPosted by Harksen Tuesday, November 20 2007 00:35:58

Blog Image

This illustration (by Lars Kramhøft, of course) is to my contribution for the HPLMYTHOS.DK anthology, "Fra Skyggerne" (eng. "From the Shadows"). Isn't it great?smiley

Now I'm trying to wrap up the last editing, proof reading (always some typo to spot!) and other "loose ends." Early December the final version of the cover will be created and then it's off to the printer! I can't guarantee that it will come out in time for Christmas 2007, but the book should be ready to ship from fourteen days to thirty days after arriving at the printer.

The minute I have mailed the final ms. to the printer I will update the HPLMYTHOS.DK website. That will also be the time I open the "shop" for purchases & orders of the book (also at the official site). The anthology will cost DKK 200,- and from then on it will be possible to make advance payment (as some have already enquired). I have deliberately stayed away from that till the book is actually completed!

Of course, since the contents is in Danish the English speaking among you*) may decide not to buy it, but then again--for the HPL collector it's a treat! A rare and unique Cthulhu Mythos anthology with amazing art... [Nudge, nudgesmiley]

For now,

Henrik

*) Quite a few of ya out there, I know. That's the reason this blog is in English, hehe.

The Annoying Delay

H. P. LovecraftPosted by Harksen Wednesday, October 31 2007 00:05:53

I've been silent lately. I apologize. For various, private reasons I have not been working much on the HPLMYTHOS.DK project the last months...:-(

Now I am back on the project. More specific updates soon!

Nyt om HPLMYTHOS.DK 1

H. P. LovecraftPosted by Harksen Sunday, August 19 2007 22:47:03

Hi again,

I've just returned from a wonderful honeymoon in Prague. What a wonderful city--what charm, what mystery. And with the most beautiful & lovely woman in the world at my side, could it be any better? I think not!

Anyway, there's been a slight delay of the publication of the first volume of HPLMYTHOS.DK book. It will now be published September/October, and not August/September as I initially hoped...

It will be worth the wait, though. Have just read the latest version of Konzack & Dall's "Tilfældet H. P. Lovecraft" (eng. "The Case of H. P. Lovecraft")--and what an improvement! Amazing, I tell you; amazing!

More later,

Henrik

de Camp's HPL Biography

H. P. LovecraftPosted by Harksen Sunday, July 29 2007 13:52:15

Hey,

If you're interested, here's a link to Lars Gorzelak Pedersen's well-written and balanced recent review of L. Sprague de Camp's (in)famous Lovecraft biography from the mid-1970s, Lovecraft: A Biography - http://lgp.smartlog.dk/lovecraft

As you can see there, I don't agree with all Lars' points, but that doesn't change my very positive opinion of his review.

It's all written in Danish, btwsmiley
