The Conspiracy Against the Human Race
Thomas LigottiPosted by Harksen Monday, May 28 2007 02:06:37Hi again,
Today I downloaded and printed (& bound) what I suspect will be a very fascinating and thought-provocing read: Thomas Ligotti's manuscript to his forthcoming nonfictional publication The Conspiracy Against the Human Race. Promising to be a philosophical treatise combining the horror genre with Ligotti's bleak worldview, evolving around nihilism and pessimism
.
Now, before anyone cries out that I shouldn't do such illegal things--don't worry! It is a completely legal & allowed--even encouraged!--download and printing (for personal use). From Ligotti himself. On his website (also a "fan community"--but he is generous to appear from time to time) THOMAS LIGOTTI ONLINE (see http://www.ligotti.net/) he offers it for free reading; and if you're a (free) member of the site, you can download it as well. For personally use, of course.
It seems that the idea is to get some feedback from people, so he can hand in a complete manuscript as possible when it is to be published by Durto (see http://durtro.com/) at some point. Great idea. I hope this idea won't diminish the sale of the book--I for one will definitely purchase it!
If by any chance you are wondering what on Earth (or, again, off Earth
) this has to do with good ole Lovecraft, well, here's the link for ya: Ligotti has written numerous tales in the Lovecraftian vein, and is a renowned, if nicheed, horror writer of today. And although he began writing (somewhat) Lovecraftian-like tales, he has long ago taken HPL's dark ideas and continued down his own, fantastic, bleak, unthrodden literary road. There's no-one like Ligotti. And in this case that's without question a compliment of the highest order.
I like to refer to him as the Lovecraftian Kafka of the horror genre. That should give you a hint...
More later--also about my own projects...
